North-Central Region American College Dance Association Conference

360 dancers are at UMD for the North-Central Region American College Dance Association Conference.

UMD is hosting “Moving Bodies,” the 2017 North-Central Region American College Dance Association Conference, Wednesday, March 8 through Saturday, March 11, 2017.

At least 360 people from 22 institutions will participate in four days of dance classes, performances, and discussions.

“This is an incredible opportunity to raise the profile of dance in the community,” says Rebecca Katz Harwood, associate professor of dance and musical theatre at UMD. “It’s inspiring to bring an event to campus that’s celebrating creativity in higher education.”

Harwood adds her students are a big part of the conference– making sure the sessions run smoothly, serving as tech crew for the dance concerts, and performing.

Concerts will take place throughout the conference including these Adjudication Concerts at the Marshall Performing Arts Center (MPAC), 1215 Ordean Court:

Thursday, March 9 at 1:15 p.m.

Friday, March 10 at 1:15 p.m.

The conference culminates in a gala concert on Saturday, March 11 at 2 p.m., also at MPAC. This is open to the public and tickets are available online.

The American College Dance Association (ACDA) is a national organization dedicated to celebrating and enriching dance in higher education.
