Koki graduated from UMD SFA in 2016

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
An actor or a lawyer

What major[s]/minor[s] did you graduate with?
BFA in Acting

Where do you live these days?
Kansas City, Missouri (Hometown)

Where do you work? What kind of work do you do?
Baty, Holm, Numrich, & Otto, P.C. I've been working as a records clerk and I'm heading to law school at the University of Missouri this fall.

What was your favorite class or project in college?
Hamlet(s) for our Acting III Class. It was quite honestly the most exhilarating experience of my life.

How did SFA professors influence you?
Oh gosh. They were so incredible. Incredibly passionate about what they were teaching and most importantly they showed me how to relax. Be myself and own who I am.

What advice would you give to a incoming Theatre student?
Be authentic. Choose a monologue that YOU like that speaks to YOU. Make a bold choice without thinking "I know they'll like this because it's XYZ." Be honest with what you want and who you are. Be you and do.

What was your favorite local Duluth hangout in college?
That gorgeous beauty sitting right behind you. Lake Superior.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you since graduating from UMD SFA?
Pursuing an entirely different path in life, because UMD helped me become confident in who I am and what I have to offer. And most importantly, being unapologetic about that.

What was your biggest takeaway from UMD SFA?
Be you and do. Own who you are and don't apologize for it. Being present and authentic in every moment.

How did you make the decision to attend UMD for school?
At KCACTF I would see UMD students and think, "Wow. I want to do that. . ." I had auditioned for them a few times over the years when I was at my community college and when it came down to having to make a decision . . .the rest in history.
