What is your major?Â
I am a double major in German Studies and Graphic Design.
Where did you study abroad, through what program/course, and how long were you there?
I studied in Berlin, Germany through Language and Culture in Germany. I was there for one month.
What did your course consist of doing?
It was a 3 week intensive study of the Language and the Culture. Every day we were out participating in excursions through the City. We did much more than just the regular tours of museums, and other typical tourist spots. Our Professor brought us to locations like the local literature store to meet his friend Carston, who went into detail about different aspects of German literature. It was really cool, because no tour could have gone into detail with such passion as his friend did for us.
What is your favorite memory from your study abroad experience?
I think my favorite memory was the living experience that I was lucky to share with 15 other students. We lived in a house with just our group, it was fun to cook for one another, participate in the classroom, and dive into the culture with your fellow classmates from UMD and other schools.
What would you say to someone considering studying abroad?
It is a once and a lifetime experience, when will you ever get a chance to explore a country with people your own age, and also get to learn? You are in College, explore every opportunity given to you, and this is one that is definitely worth checking out!
Has study abroad influenced your academic/career path?
I have always been interested in German, but this trip made secured that this is something I want a degree in. I was able to really explore the language and become more confident in my abilities.
