What do you think is unique about your major?

What is unique about a communication major is the simple fact that it is a relatively new area of study. It will continue to expand and be a necessary part of any successful industry.

How does your major fit into your life goals?

Communication will allow me to be able to promote gender equality practices in any industry I work in, provide empathy to co-workers, and allow me to transfer industries should I ever want to switch career fields.

What piece of advice would you give to a student considering your major?

I would simply say-do it. Communication is specific enough to be studied through certain lenses but broad enough to incorporate almost everything. You will find something you are interested in.

How has the Undergraduate Research Opportunity (UROP) that you participated in enhanced or complemented the education you received in your major at UMD?

The faculty I worked with used UROP in order to produce a graduate level experience, which will be valuable in grad school. It also provided an opportunity to receive an undergraduate publication.

What were the most valuable aspects of your UROP experience?

The faculty and students that I worked with and how the final product evolved to become something entirely different than originally imagined.
