Internship: Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension

What is your major?

Criminology

Where was your internship placement? (What is the purpose of the organization?)

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which is a state law enforcement agency.

What did your general duties involve?

I am responsible for maintaining various databases for the missing persons division and crime alert network at the BCA. I am also responsible for a number of other various projects as needed.

What was your most memorable experience?

My most memorable experience has definitely been working with individuals who have already established themselves in a law enforcement career. There are some things you cannot learn about in a classroom, and the stories I have heard and contacts I have made at the BCA have certainly been memorable.

Has your internship influenced your career path?

My internship at the BCA has opened my eyes to just how many different careers there are in the criminal justice system. I have come to realize that even if I choose not to become a sworn police officer there are plenty of other careers I can pursue that would suit my interests.
