Internship: Kernz & Kompany, a Special Events and Marketing Company.

What is your major?

My major is Cultural Entrepreneurship. My minor is Hispanic Studies.

Where was your internship placement? (What is the purpose of the organization?)

My internship was at Kernz & Kompany, a Special Events and Marketing Company. My main project was the St. Luke's Orthopedic and Sports Medicine 5 on 5 Soccer Challenge. This was an event that I was in charge of.

What did your general duties involve?

I was in charge of planning the 2015 St.Luke's Orthopedic and Sports Medicine 5 on 5 Soccer Challenge, the largest 5 on 5 soccer tournament north of the Twin Cities. This event took place in September and was a community tournament involving all ages. Organization of the event, arranging participation, marketing and promotion were only a few of my responsibilities for this event.

What was your most memorable experience?

My most memorable experience was the day before the event. I had done so much to prepare for the big day, and to set it all up successfully, it was very rewarding to see it completely put together and ready to go. After the event was memorable as well because it was a success and it was all due to my hard work and determination. Seeing my hard work pay off is the best feeling and a great motivator.

Has your internship influenced your career path?

My internship has definitely influenced my career path. Not only have a found what my passion is but in addition, after my internship was over Kernz & Kompany offered me a part-time job as an event coordinator which I accepted! I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to add this experience to my resume. It will definitely pay off once I graduate and look for employment elsewhere. What is most important though is how much knowledge I am gaining by working at Kernz & Kompany, and how much it will aid in reaching my goals of having my own Special Events and Marketing company someday.
