Personal Statement

My life revolves around my wife, Amy, and our four children, Grace, Helena, Eve, and Liam. We enjoy the life that Duluth offers - and it offers much. We bike, hike, kayak/canoe and camp as often as possible (the Boundary Waters are amazing). One of our favorite family activities is to explore the shores of Lake Superior. It is truly one of the most beautiful bodies of water. If I am not at work or with my family you will find me in the woods, riding my bike like a little kid.

Professional Interests

I joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2003 after completing my PhD at Michigan State University. My research interests lie in the areas of social influence, interpersonal/relationship, and health and intercultural communication. I enjoy teaching and the day-to-day interaction with students and my colleagues. The Communication Department at UMD is a positive, energetic, supportive, and fun environment in which to do research and teach and I love coming to work every day.
