I am originally from Des Moines and did my undergraduate work at Iowa State University. I taught high-school English for two years in the Iowa public schools, and then my husband and I spent four years teaching overseas at the American School of Yaoundé in Cameroon, West Africa. During our time overseas, our adventures included rafting on the Nile in Uganda, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Cameroon, and taking road trips within Cameroon. A love of the outdoors and a desire to be closer to family drew us to Duluth, where I completed my M.A. at UMD in the spring of 2014. I find teaching—both at the high-school and now at the college level—incredibly rewarding and appreciate the rhythm that being on an academic calendar provides. In my free time, I enjoy reading, doing yoga, and following Iowa State basketball. In addition, Brian, who teaches English at Denfeld, and I have two young daughters, and we love hiking, camping, and just spending time outside together as a family.
