John Grauer was a technician at an NBC affiliate in a major television market for more than ten years. While there, he operated a camera in the studio and on location, he edited film and video, and he prepared computer graphics. After that, he attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a PhD in English. He has taught composition at several universities, including the University of North Alabama and the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. He came to UMD in 2014, where he teaches Writing Studies. His current research focuses on the changing nature of writing in an electronic era.
