Bio

A Northern Minnesotan and Bulldog to the core, I earned both of my degrees from UMD and slid down hills on my way to Bulldog hockey games for thirty years. I’m thrilled to work with my fellow Bulldogs on improving their writing skills as an instructor of writing studies. Each semester, my goal is to introduce new and exciting concepts in rhetoric in order to widen my students’ viewpoints, inspire their curiosities about issues concerning both local and global societies, and, of course, move their writing prowess towards the “more proficient” end of the scale.

Earlier in my career I worked as an x-ray technologist before leaving that field to earn my BA and raise four youngsters (Claire, Ty, Mac, and Will) with my husband, Chuck. During that period, I brought art programs and artists into our local schools, as well as taught art myself while working on my Art History major and Art minor.  My turn to the English program was a somewhat natural progression after enjoying the writing-intensive classes in Art History.

I’m an avid traveler and was thrilled this past year to explore Portland while attending a conference, experience Hamilton in Chicago, and hike the mountains of Big Sky, Montana. While home, I’m privileged to live on a beautiful Minnesota lake north of Duluth where I am either on the water or looking at the water.
