What is MPS?
Master of Professional Studies in Multidisciplinary Research & Creativity
This Interdisciplinary, self designed Master of Professional Studies program prioritizes applied research skills, creative and innovative problem solving, socially conscious leadership, and the integration of theory and practice across disciplines. By engaging multiple disciplinary approaches to a selected problem, students develop their capacity to identify, delineate, and research key problems, building an empowered learning approach to their own professionalization. With a "Plan B" project-based structure, the Multidisciplinary Research & Creativity program consists of three core courses (12 credits) and 18 credits of coursework (for a total of 30 credits) across disciplines, along with a Plan B capstone project and oral exam. Earning the degree of MPS, students join a cadre of students nationally and internationally who seek applied, interdisciplinary graduate study to develop and enhance their professionalization.
Students assemble a degree program in consultation with their advisors. Unlike traditional graduate programs which focus on a single discipline, the MPS program allows you to choose from a wide range of elective subjects that expand your intellectual, creative, and professional horizons. Examples of this multidisciplinary approach include (but are not limited to) emphases in the following areas:
Global Indigenous Studies
The History of Ideas
The program requires applicants to have completed a bachelor's degree, online application with transcripts, three letters of recommendation and a personal statement.
As students assemble a degree program in discussions with their advisors, they can choose from different emphases. These emphases facilitate productive conversations between students and advisors about their degree programs.
