Purpose of Grants
CCRR provides funding opportunities for students, faculty and local organizations, communities and agencies. The overarching goal of projects funded by CCRR is to strengthen UMD's relationship with Duluth and the surrounding communities, while at the same time provide educational, research and outreach opportunities for UMD students and faculty.
Faculty Research Opportunities
Serves: University of Minnesota Duluth Campus Faculty
Purpose: To encourage faculty to conduct research projects, in partnership with local and regional communities, agencies and organizations that address issues of public policy pertinent to Duluth and the Arrowhead Region of Minnesota. Awards generally cover salary for research assistants, small stipends or travel for faculty, and necessary supplies not covered by the University. View the faculty guidelines.
How To Apply: A call for proposals is distributed to faculty in mid fall semester, and the deadline for proposals is generally in December. View the outline for proposals.
Faculty research can also be funded through CCRR's Seed Grant Opportunities
Serves: Local and Regional Community Organizations and Agencies that lack capacity and/or resources to conduct research on their own.
Purpose: To provide community organizations and agencies resources to initiate public policy based projects that are central to their mission. The research process is driven by the community, in collaboration with UMD faculty and/or UMD students. Successful projects are those that create partnerships between organizations and agencies, and with UMD. View the community based guidelines.

Student Civic Engagement Opportunities
Serves: University of Minnesota Duluth Campus Students
Purpose: To provide UMD students opportunities to engage with community-based nonprofit organizations on a specific project. Requests for support must involve a project with unique value; requests for general support for the operations of an organization or agency will not be considered. Seed Grant Opportunities
Serves: University of Minnesota Duluth Faculty and Students, and Local/Regional Community Organizations and Agencies
Purpose: To provide opportunities for new ideas for projects concerning public policy that may not be covered by CCRR's other grant opportunities. Project proposals can come from faculty, students, community organizations and government agencies. There is no specific deadline for these proposals.
How To Apply: The best approach is to call the Director of CCRR and discuss the idea; if deemed worthwhile, a brief proposal will be invited. For projects supporting government agencies, we usually seek matching funding.
