Born and raised in the Bahamas, I never thought I’d end up in Duluth MN. I’ve been fortunate to live on both coasts of the United States, as well as internationally, and I’m excited to now be in the middle of the continent and still near the water.
After graduating from Clemson University, I had the opportunity to work in the International Financial Services industry during the height of the recession, as a Client Manager for a leading private firm based in the Bahamian capital. During that time I also founded and led a nonprofit, with the mission of revitalizing Nassau’s downtown urban-core through civic-engagement; this experience garnered me an invite to serve on a national think-tank, commissioned to develop an action plan to secure Nassau’s status as a ‘UNESCO City of Design’. That time of my life laid the foundation for my ongoing interest in people-leadership, civic engagement, urban and societal improvement, and relationship management.
I left the Bahamas to pursue an M.S. in Organizational Communication at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, where I also taught courses on Public Speaking, and Co-Taught courses on Argumentation and Advocacy, and International and Cross-Cultural Communication. After graduating from NCSU I moved to Seattle. I started my career in Seattle as a Biz-Dev Consultant for a national telecom. company. The majority of my stay in Seattle was spent at one of the fastest growing, most respected and most innovative Nonprofits in the world, building and managing our Career and Alumni Services team, our Employer Engagement and Relations operation, and overseeing the biannual success of one of our 5 critical organizational metrics - outcomes. I established and managed partnerships with everything from startups to Fortune 100 companies, as well as developed and delivered college courses in: Business Communications, Professional Skills, and Career Success. Living and working in Seattle was an incredible experience that allowed me to work with and learn from companies and professionals who are at the top of their game (at a national and international level), which is something I'm extremely grateful for having been exposed to.
As an instructor and the director of the Communication Department's Internship Program, my standing goals are: improve daily; make innovation a part of how all things are approached; connecting the right people with the right opportunities; don't waste anyone's time (life's too short for that); learn as you teach; never stop listening to those around you; value the people you interact with; and do everything with positivity and purpose.
Things I’m most passionate about: my friends and family (including my animals); the outdoors; Clemson University; the science of developing others and helping them achieve their goals; leveraging what skills and traits I do have in a manner that makes a positive impact on the world around me.
