Program in Geography and the Geospatial Analysis Center to host GIS Fest

Join us for GIS Fest 2018, November 15 from 1-5 in the Kirby Ballroom

This is a very multi-disciplinary event – a perfect time to get to know more about how geospatial data is used in your field, how you can learn about spatial web services and applications, the future of the geospatial industry, drones, and more!

Short presentations and demonstrations will cover a wide range of fields in topics such as GIS in elementary education, fighting the opioid epidemic, learning about mercury distribution in the St Louis River Estuary, and solving problems at Minnesota Housing.  Learn from UMD GIS student alumni, community partners and UMD faculty as they share their work.

Examples:
  • Visit the Program in Geography table to learn about the new B.S. in GIS that launched this fall!
  • Visit the Geospatial Analysis Center table to learn how storytelling with maps, video and images is revolutionizing access to spatial information.
  • Attend the presentation by Jennifer Frisch at 1:00 to learn how she uses GIS and story maps in elementary school to engage students with their environment and biological concepts.
  • Learn how USDA uses geospatial data for critical planning in the USDA Risk Management Agency
  • Learn how GIS has given UMD graduates an edge in many fields of interest!

All UMD faculty, staff and students, as well as community members are encouraged to attend to see how GIS and spatial data is beneficial to getting jobs and solving problems in the in the region.
