Internship: Guest Services Target - Duluth
What is your major?
Communication and Human Resource Management
Where was your internship placement? (What is the purpose of the organization?)
Executive Intern – Guest Experience at Target Duluth
What did your general duties involve?
My internship was a 10-week program during which I developed an understanding of Target’s brand strategy and received an overview of the store’s operations and guest service initiatives. I improved my personal leadership skills through training, mentorship, and feedback. I learned how to use my business, leadership, and people skills to inspire exceptional performance, maximize sales, and increase profits for the store. I contributed to Target’s “fast, fun, and friendly” culture to deliver an amazing Target experience for the team and guests. During the final 5 weeks, I assumed the leadership responsibilities of the Guest Experience department and contributed innovative ideas. I also took over the role of Leader on Duty (LOD) when in the building to manage the day-to-day operations of the store. During the last week, I was offered a full-time position for after graduation! I also loved the personal growth and development opportunities they provided, the amount of responsibility I was given, and the empowerment to make executive decisions to respond to the needs of the business.
What was your most memorable experience?
My most memorable experience was when I created an amazing moment for a guest out of a difficult situation by getting creative and using my problem-solving skills. I was recognized by my mentor and my store manager, and I was able to put a smile on everyone’s face!
Has your internship influenced your career path?
Yes! My internship with Target helped me realize my passion for working with others in a team setting. I am constantly energized when I know I am helping my team succeed! I love the fast-paced environment, and I enjoy being in the action throughout the day. My internship helped me realize that a typical "desk-job" path is not for me.
