Criminology Alum Morgan Cekalla

"The Criminology program was the perfect segue into the career I love and have a passion for."

Morgan Cekalla majored in Criminology and minored in Communication. He is currently a Police Officer in the Patrol Division with the Duluth Police Department (DPD) where his work involves patroling the streets of Duluth, primarily in the downtown district responding to calls for service (police calls). He responds to a wide variety of call types; disturbances, domestic disputes, accidents, assaults, robberies, vehicle prowls, burglaries, fights, civil matters, alarms, thefts, to name just a few.  Morgan enforces the state of MN’s traffic and criminal law, as well as Duluth’s city ordinances. Through the department he is proudly involved in the community, attending events and getting to know the public.

Morgan says "The degree I earned at UMD was unique to my profession in the sense that the courses offered a variety of knowledge in many different aspects of our diverse and ever changing society. The people I interact with in the community come from many different backgrounds and lifestyles and are often seeing me at their worst moments. The Criminology program gave me the ability to grow as a person and out of my small town Minnesota mindset. I didn’t know I was going to be a police officer when I was attending UMD, but the Criminology program was the perfect segue into the career I love and have a passion for."
